Pinehurst Resort is large and historic golf resort located in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The resort has eight golf courses, but the most famous is Pinehurst No.2 with is mounded greens designed by Donald Ross. Pinehurst No. 2 hosted the 1999 US Open where Payne Stewart won his last major championship before his tragic death. Micheal Campbell won the US Open played at Pinehurst in 2005. Pinehurst is scheduled to host the US Open again in 2014. In 1996 Pinehurst was designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
